The journey

I went on a an entrepreneurship journey. My design studio was in the space of technology consulting, digital design, art, photography and physical product licensing. The main focus for me was the physical product licensing space and it was also the hardest thing I’ve done. I had to solve problems, learn how to design in 3D, learn how to print in 3D, learn how to create sell sheets, reach out to business for licensing deals, keep my business financially healthy, learn many industries, ect. All this while being a full time caregiver.

Problem

In one of my projects “NeverLeft”, after over 20 prototypes, many interviews and feedback sessions along with testing-I had to face the hard fact that I would have to change the form factor. The current form factor was easier to sell, people liked how it felt, how it looked and how convenient it was. The product just felt good in the hands and the cost of production/packaging/ect was spot on- but the success rate of the product (regarding safety) was not 100%. That was a problem, because the product NEEDS to be 100% accurate and safe all the time otherwise…it should never see the light of day.

The learning

I learned how to think outside the box and create for many industries such as firearm safety, kitchen tools, kids games (physical & digital), bedding, pool safety, bathroom decor, coffee maker, yoga accessory and wallets. I had to learn how to stay curious, be observant, prototype quickly, fail fast, fail often, know when to move on and know when to pursue. I also learned how to stay financially lean.
